Parkinson's Disease Emergency Oscillator

There are many practical things that are developed to assist someone with Parkinson’s Disease and they all help a lot, but what about something that’s fun.

Thanks to the Integrated Product Design Research (IPD-R) team in the School of Design at UTS, we have launched a world first – a cocktail shaker that works perfectly with your tremor. The mad professors couldn’t pass up the opportunity to create an aid that assists with one of life’s great pleasures.

You thought PD was a disability but that’s where you were wrong. This is one case where it’s good to have the shakes.

Bernie the wobbly dashboard doll

We wanted to produce something that would bring some fun and joy into the lives of those living with Parkinson’s as well as their loved ones – a not so subtle reminder (sitting squarely on the dash) to continue to be positive. When we told our friend Bernie about our plan to create a wobbly dashboard doll he loved the idea and quickly offered his services as the model. The incredibly talented team at Wysiwig 3D provided the technology and means to manufacture our very own Bernie ‘minime’.

Coffee Table Book

A beautiful book about Parkinson's

The concept of a book about Parkinson’s was initially about providing a voice and profile for those living with the disease. A series of magnificent, breath taking photos and heart-rendering, honest stories.

Once we started talking with people it became apparent it would be much more. An acknowledgement of those who have used their diagnosis and the disease to reinvent themselves, or perhaps found the motivation to do the things they’ve always wanted to do.

PD has a curious way of amplifying any personal peculiarities or quirky traits that have may have existed. This book is all about celebrating the many colourful characters of our community.
